Winter Olympics 2026 live updates: Day 11 latest as Mac Forehand wins silver in legendary big air final; plus curling, hockey, bobsled – The Athletic

OK we are through five sleds and counting in the final 2-man bobsled run. Reminder that Frank Del Duca and Josh Williamson go 17th. One major difference in the third and fourth runs of 2-man bobsled compared to the first two yesterday: Temperature.

It was a crispy 37 degrees farenheit Monday morning during the first and second runs — warm enough that pilot Frank Del Duca and his brakeman, Josh Williamson, walked through the mixed zone barefoot — but it’s considerably colder now, at 23 degrees. And yes, that does change the track ice.

“We’ll probably have less grip, but it’ll be the same for everybody,” Del Duca said Monday after his second run. “Especially the last run, all the sleds that are grouped together by time, we’ll all have similar ice. The ice may change or may break down but from what I remember, the ice (here) was most consistent on (the World Cup) tour, which is really all you can ask for.”

Del Duca acknowledged that the sleds that start first generally have the best ice but said he’s fine with where the Americans will start because “we’ll be grouped with the people we’re trying to catch.”

Plus, he’s not looking for an easy road to a medal, saying:

“We don’t want luck, we want to earn it.”
