Update 9:21pm ET: YouTube appears to be coming back online now for most users. If you’re still having problems, let us know down in the comments.
If you’re having problems accessing YouTube this evening, you’re not alone. YouTube is experiencing a widespread outage, and there’s no estimate on when it will be fixed.
Yes, YouTube is down: Track the outage
According to outage tracker Downdetector, complaints about the YouTube outage began shortly after 8 p.m. PT/5 p.m. PT. YouTube TV also appears to be suffering from an outage for some users.
The problems appear to primarily be affecting the YouTube homepage as well as the subscriptions feed. If you visit a channel or video directly, the page will load but might be slow. Video playback is also lagging more than usual.
The YouTube Shorts feed is also down for many viewers. The outage applies to both the YouTube website as well as mobile apps on iPhone, iPad, Android, and more.
A quick search on social media reveals that this is seemingly a widespread outage affecting a large percentage of YouTube viewers.
In a post on social media, TeamYouTube acknowledged the outage: “We can confirm that we’re aware of the issue & our team is currently working on a fix. We appreciate your patience while we get this sorted.”
Interestingly, people who were actively watching a video when YouTube went down say they were “suddenly kicked off” mid-video. Some people also report that they were signed out of their account in the YouTube app on iPhone.
Google doesn’t have a public “status” page for services like YouTube, so it’s hard to track the outage. There’s no timeline on when it will be fixed.
Are you having problems with YouTube or any other Google services tonight? Let us know down in the comments.
