Person hospitalized after being rescued from burning Appleton home

APPLETON (WLUK) — One person was taken to the hospital after a house fire in Appleton Wednesday.
Around 5:20 p.m., the Appleton Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 3000 block of North Meade Street. The initial call reported there was a fire in the kitchen and someone was possibly inside the home.
Upon arrival, crews began search-and-rescue efforts and one occupant was removed from the residence. The person received medical care on scene and was taken to an area hospital.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. A cause has not yet been determined. Damage to the home and its contents is estimated to be $80,000.

Properly working smoke alarms were not sounding, according to the fire department. Residents are also reminded to know two ways out of every room in case one is blocked or dangerous during a fire.
