Ford orders minister to ensure Ontario students can watch Canada hockey games during school hours

Ontario students will be able to watch the remaining Team Canada hockey games during school hours, Premier Doug Ford says.

He made the announcement on social media on Wednesday.

“To help everyone get in the spirit of the games, I’ve directed the Minister of Education to make sure all Ontario students are able to watch the remaining Team Canada hockey games that take place during school hours, starting with tomorrow’s game,” Ford said, referring to the Canadian women’s gold medal match against their rival, the United States, on Thursday.

“Let’s all come together to cheer on Team Canada as they bring home Olympic gold!”

When CTV News reached out for further information about the premier’s post, his office said that it would be up to individual schools how they would organize the viewing of the games.

The Canadian women are hoping to win their fifth Olympic gold medal at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games. Puck drops at 1:10 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Canadian men are in the semifinals and will face Finland next. That game is scheduled at 10:40 a.m. on Friday.
