Muller’s OT snipe wins Switzerland bronze in Olympic women’s hockey

In a repeat of the bronze medal outcome from Sochi 2014, Switzerland topped Sweden for the third-place hardware.

Alina Muller scored on an incredible snipe in the final minute of overtime as Switzerland won the bronze medal at Milano Cortina 2026.

The game-winner was Muller’s 29th Olympic point, good for seventh all-time, putting the 27-year-old 10 points back of Marie-Philip Poulin’s record of 39. The win marks Switzerand’s first women’s hockey medal since the Sochi bronze 12 years ago.

In the three-on-three period, Sweden’s netminder Ebba Svensson Traff held steady as she stopped seven shots, including three that came from Muller before she netted the game-winner.

Switzerland’s Andrea Braendli saw less action in the extra time, but was equally as poised in her crease. The 28-year-old is one of the top goaltenders who will be available for the 2026 PWHL draft.

Just two goals, exactly four minutes apart, were scored in regulation. Mira Jungaker was first on the board for Sweden, but PWHL draft prospect Sinja Leemann quickly followed to even the score for Switzerland.

After securing the bronze medal, Muller rushed to grab and tie Noemi Ryhner’s jersey around her. Ryhner was originally added to the Swiss squad before an injury prevented her participation in the Games.
