We are in the home stretch of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, but there is still business to attend to and plenty of hardware to hand out, including for the Women’s 1,500 Meters Speed Skating event.

It may not attract the same number of eyeballs as Thursday’s Men’s 1,500 Meters because none of the competitors brings the star power to the rink that Jordan Stolz did for Team USA, but this competition has a lot of drama built into it.

For one, the odds are much tighter than they were for the Men’s 1,500.

Stolz was a ridiculous price, between -1400 and -3000, depending on the sportsbook, before that event started. He settled for silver.

Second, there is history to be made as Japan’s Miho Takagi goes for her 11th Olympic medal, inching her closer to Dutch legend Ireen Wurst’s record of 13.

Takagi became just the second long-track speed skater to win 10 Olympic medals when Japan took home the bronze in the women’s team pursuit Tuesday.

But unlike Stolz, Takagi will be facing some fierce competition ahead of the final Friday morning in Northern Italy (approx. 10:30 a.m. ET).

According to the oddsmakers at DraftKings Sportsbook, this sets up as a two-horse race between Takagi and rising Dutch star Femke Kok.

The bookies have tagged Takagi with even-money odds, slightly ahead of Kok’s +150 price.

Ragne Wiklund of Norway is the third-favorite at +700, while Kok’s countrywoman, Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong, is the only other skater with single-digit odds at +800.

Brittany Bowe, a native of Ocala, Fla., has the shortest odds of any American in the field. The 37-year-old checks in at 35/1 odds to win gold in the 1,500.

Women’s 1,500M Speed Skating odds

  • Miho Takagi, Japan +100
  • Femke Kok, Netherlands +150
  • Ragne Wiklund, Norway +700
  • Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong, Netherlands +800
  • Francesca Lollobrigida, Italy 10/1

This race feels like a clash between generations.

While Takagi has a wealth of experience and a trophy case full of hardware, Kok is building some significant momentum in Milan.

The 25-year-old has already made her mark on these games by winning gold in an Olympic-record time of 36.49 in the Women’s 500m. Takagi took the bronze in that race.

With momentum on her side, we’ll take the slightly better price on Kok to pull the minor upset over Takagi on Friday morning.

The Pick: Femke Kok (+150, DraftKings)
