More than 1,100 flights delayed at DIA as high winds hit Colorado

More than 1,100 flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport were delayed or canceled Tuesday as high winds hit Colorado’s Front Range and Eastern Plains.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a wind-based ground delay at DIA early Tuesday morning, which was delaying flights by an average of 2 hours before it expired at 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the FAA.
By the end of the day, 1,120 flights had been delayed and 96 had been canceled, according to data from flight-tracking software FlightAware.

Delays included 417 United flights, 326 Southwest flights, 241 SkyWest flights, 49 Frontier flights, 28 Delta flights, 25 American Airlines flights and 11 Key Lime Air flights, according to FlightAware. Eight other airlines delayed between one and seven flights.
SkyWest canceled 64 flights, Southwest canceled 25 flights and United canceled seven flights, according to FlightAware.
