Lindsey Vonn offers gruesome update after Olympic crash: ‘Bionic for real now’

Lindsey Vonn’s slow and grueling recovery process continues.
The skier provided an update following her Feb. 18 procedure after a horrific crash during the women’s 2026 Olympic downhill competition put her in the hospital.
“Just a quick update… my last surgery went well,” she wrote Friday on X. “It took a little over six hours. I have been recovering from the surgery, but pain has been hard to manage. Making slow progress, but I hope I can be out of the hospital soon. Thank you for all the support.”

The 41-year-old American star entered the Milano Cortina Games with a fully ruptured ACL in her left knee.
She then sustained a complex tibial fracture after she hooked a gate with her arm, sending her spinning on the course, where she lay wailing in pain until being airlifted to a nearby hospital.
She added an image of her surgically repaired leg, with nearly 20 screws stabilizing the break.
“I’m bionic for real now,” she wrote.
Vonn remained in Italy through four surgical procedures before returning stateside.

“Haven’t stood on my feet in over a week… been in a hospital bed immobile since my race,” she wrote Monday. “And although I’m not yet able to stand, being back on home soil feels amazing.
“Huge thank you to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me.”
The injury, she shared, is “a lot more severe than just a broken leg.”

“I’m still wrapping my head around it, what it means and the road ahead,” she wrote on social media.
Vonn’s recovery was further complicated by her announcement that her dog, Leo, died a day after her Olympic crash, while she was stuck in her hospital bed.
“Been some of the hardest days of my life and still have not begun to process his passing,” she shared.
Vonn came out of retirement with the 2026 Olympics as a goal, winning multiple races throughout the season before what she said would be her fifth and final Games.
