‘Green light’ for Norwich City deal – Player flying to new club on Sunday, Monday medical

Barcelona have received the ‘green light’ to sign Norwich City youngster Ajay Tavares, and he is set to fly to the city on Sunday.

That’s according to Sport. The Spanish newspaper reports that it is now ‘case close’ for the youngster, and he will join Barcelona.

According to their information, Norwich City have given the 16-year-old permission to travel to Barcelona. This follows ‘several weeks of procedures’ to resolve the transfer. ‘Bureaucratic problems’ had held up Barcelona’s deal for the highly rated youngster.

They, though, are now history and Tavares will fly to Barcelona on Sunday before undergoing a medical on Monday. The plan at the Camp Nou is for him to join training in the middle of next week.

Norwich City green light

Tavares’ move to Barcelona has been ‘practically finalised’ for some time. Indeed, Sport Witness covered a report back in December stating that the deal was done.

A report in January followed that stating Barcelona were on the verge of completing it.

Another report picked that up again this week, explaining that there was a determination to get the deal done. That has now happened.

According to Sport, officials have now completed the remaining ‘administrative details,’ allowing the deal to progress without further obstacles. As a result, Tavares is expected to fly to Barcelona on Sunday. A medical will follow on Monday.

FIFA give permission

Under FIFA rules, Tavares would have had to wait until he turned 18, but his Portuguese passport allows him to move from Norwich now. He still required FIFA approval, which he has now received, giving him the green light to travel to Barcelona immediately.

Barcelona have targeted him and several others in an attempt to boost their youth academy. Hamza Abdelkarim and Joaquín Delgado also joined in the January transfer window.

They remain keen to back youth in future and Tavares is the latest signing on that mission. Now, with no issues in the way, he can take the final step on Monday before starting his integration with the Blaugrana.
