Winter Olympics 2026 live updates: Eileen Gu defends gold in women’s freeski halfpipe; closing ceremony later today

Zoe Atkin is in pole position after the first run, securing 90.50.

She looks smooth, relaxed and full of confidence, landing a very clean routine, and hitting huge heights, the highest being 4.5m. Although she told the cameras she was nervous.

Eileen Gu went for a huge right side 900 on her first trick in her first run. She soared four metres above the halfpipe and landed the trick but was off balance as she crossed the middle of the halfpipe. Her body was trying to go in one direction but the back of her skies, as they touched down, went in the opposite direction.

She used the first run as a training practice, knowing she would be penalised for that mistake.

The first person she spoke to was her mom, sporting a panda hat, Yann Gu.
