The Portuguese’s focus next turns to domestic matters, with Liverpool the visitors to the City Ground for his first home game in charge.
Arne Slot’s side have had over a week to prepare for the game and the Reds can get revenge on the Tricky Trees, who have dominated the clubs’ recent rivalry.

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool preview
First impressions count, and Vitor Pereira made an excellent one as Nottingham Forest’s new manager with Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League victory at Fenerbahce.
The Tricky Trees’ priority, though, is to avoid relegation and Pereira needs to do what none of Forest’s last six head coaches has achieved and win his first Premier League game.
Liverpool go to Nottingham fresh and determined to end a peculiar record, having failed to win any of their three games against Forest since Arne Slot’s appointment in May 2024.
The Reds’ excellence in the league phase of the Champions League ensured they avoided a playoff tie and have had plenty of time to prepare since their 3-0 FA Cup ousting of Brighton on February 14.
That result followed a 1-0 win at Sunderland, and despite the fallout over their form, Liverpool have lost only two of their last 19 games in all competitions.
By contrast, Forest have failed to win any of five Premier League home games since beating Tottenham in December. But although Pereira is new at the club, he can lean on his squad for suggestions on how to get a result against Liverpool.
They won 3-0 at Anfield in November and are aiming to do a first league double over the Merseysiders since 1962-63.
Thursday’s excellent result in Istanbul should have increased confidence, but consistency in front of goal remains a worry.
Forest have not scored in 12 Premier League games this season, and one or both teams have failed to find the net in six of their last eight matches in all competitions.
Liverpool have fallen short this season but are finally starting to gel.
Fresher legs should also provide an advantage and a third successive shutout could await the visitors.
Super Szoboszlai to do more damage
Liverpool have relied heavily on Dominik Szoboszlai this season, and with Joe Gomez available, the Hungarian should slot back into his preferred midfield role.
Whether in the engine room or at right-back, Szoboszlai often finds ways to influence games and he has scored five times and provided three assists in his last 11 away appearances, including notching in the last two.
Reds can reverse 3-0 scoreline
Forest’s 3-0 win at Anfield came after Liverpool’s defeat by the same scoreline at Manchester City and was followed by a 4-1 home loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
After also beating Brighton last weekend and Marseille last month by the same scoreline, it may again prove the answer on Sunday.

Mohamed Salah to provide an assist
The Egyptian is aiming to provide a club-record 93rd Premier League assist. Salah drew level with Steven Gerrard on 92 when taking the corner that led to Virgil van Dijk’s header at Sunderland.
One or both teams not to score
Both sides have scored in only two of this pair’s last seven meetings, while both teams have found the net in only two of Forest’s last eight games in all competitions.
Neco Williams 1+ fouls committed
Former Liverpool youngster Williams will look to shut down Salah, potentially leading to infringements.
