Here’s Our Best Look Yet At The New Chevrolet Silverado

The CarBuzz spies have snapped prototypes of the all-new 2027 Chevrolet Silverado pickup multiple times, but never like this. The heavy camouflage that could have been hiding almost anything is gone, replaced with a body-conforming wrap instead. Now, we can get a close look at body lines and details of Chevy’s most popular and thus most important vehicle.

2027 Silverado Wears Bodycon Dress For This Outing

Over the last year or so, the new Silverado and its GMC Sierra counterpart have been spied bundled up like a toddler for winter. Still, we could see some of the changes. When Chevrolet’s design patents dropped last December, we got an even better look. But nothing like this.

A lot of the truck’s details carry over. The basic cab shape appears the same as the truck on sale now. The little spoiler is still over the rear window, too. Even the grille looks more like a trim change than an all-new truck.

But there are some big differences, starting with the headlights. Chevrolet offers each Silverado with multiple headlight designs depending on the trim, so we’re not sure which this is. But it’s likely High Country or similar, because of the line of LEDs along the inner edge. A prominent single element lamp with another smaller lamp underneath show big changes. There looks to be an accent light up top, too, giving it a look closer to the Suburban and Tahoe.

A second truck snapped on the trailer shows more front lights. That one could be a lower-spec model, without the LED accents to the inside. There are also some burly ZR2 or Trail Boss trucks on the rig.

Other details include the LED taillights that wrap into the rear bedside. It gives the gas trucks some design language from the EV, though not everyone who uses their truck for work will appreciate how the lamp sticks out. It looks easy to bump when loading from the side.

GM Dialing Back EV Plans To Build What Buyers Really Want

Get ready for more full-size V8-powered trucks and SUVs.

Different exhaust layouts, including dual and quad tips, are shown. There are running board options as well, though they don’t seem to be the power boards GM offers now.

New Engines, EREV Possible?

The new Silverado will offer at least a couple of new engines under the hood. GM has announced significant investments to build a sixth-generation of its small block V8 engine. The engines are expected to replace the existing 5.3 and 6.2-liter versions with 5.7 and 6.6. No word yet on the 2.7-liter Turbomax four-cylinder or the 3.0-liter Duramax I6 diesel offered in the current truck.

A PHEV system is also possible, though GM CEO Mary Barra has been quite vague about its plans. She said that the company was “looking segment by segment, for what we feel that we need to have to make sure we compete.” Toyota and Ford both offer hybrid models, though on paper they don’t seem to have an appreciable fuel economy boost. GM could launch an extended range EV like the truck Ram has been planning.

Opinion: This Is What The Next-Generation Chevrolet Silverado Needs To Crush Ford

We drove the 2026 Silverado in anticipation of the next-gen 2027 model.

GM confirmed on its earnings call last month that the new trucks would debut sometime in 2026 for model year 2027. That could mean a reveal at the New York International Auto Show in the spring. Or GM could be saving it (or the Sierra) for a reveal at the LA show in the fall. GM likes to space out the two trucks, probably to convince us that they aren’t basically the same.
