How to watch ‘People’s State of the Union’

Dozens of lawmakers and activists will attend a ‘People’s State of the Union’ event, livestreamed as a counter to Trump’s address.

At least 30 representatives and senators will skip the State of the Union to attend a livestreamed counter-State of the Union Feb. 24 at the other end of the National Mall.

The “People’s State of the Union” hosted by MeidasTouch, MoveOn Civic Action and other community organizing groups begins at 8 p.m. ET, one hour before President Donald Trump addresses the nation from the Capitol, and is expected to last several hours.

Speakers include members of Congress, Jeffrey Epstein abuse survivors, families impacted by immigration enforcement, fired public health workers and Americans struggling with rising costs.

“I’m very excited about the idea of just changing the spotlight … We all know what’s going to happen in there. We watch it every day,” one of the speakers, Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, CEO & President, Interfaith Alliance, said to USA TODAY about Trump’s speech. “Why give it the spotlight? Let’s focus it on the people.”
