Two arrested in fentanyl trafficking investigation

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Two people have been arrested on drug charges following a two-month investigation, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
Agents with the Brunswick County Vice and Narcotics Unit were assisted by road patrol deputies and a K-9 deputy at a traffic stop on Feb. 5.
During the investigation, agents found that 26-year-old Charles Demonte McGhee of Wilmington was allegedly in possession of approximately 12 grams of fentanyl powder.
McGhee was arrested on three counts of trafficking opium or heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a schedule I controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Tanaisha Renae Pridgen, 23, of Wilmington, was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to traffic opium or heroin, maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were processed into the Brunswick County Detention Center. McGhee remains in custody.
“This investigation reflects the continued commitment of the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office to aggressively target those responsible for distributing deadly narcotics in our communities,” BCSO officials wrote on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.
