Upton’s Fate After Chicago P.D. Revealed in First Pics from the Crossover Event

How to Watch
Watch Chicago P.D. Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC and next day on Peacock.
The countdown to the return of One Chicago Wednesdays is dwindling, and Chihards couldn’t be more pumped for the return of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. for the action-packed three-part crossover event.
As these Windy City heroes gear up to join forces in an epic three-part crossover, Chihards have been buzzing over the upcoming reunion between P.D. fan favorites Detectives Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). After the couple split following a multi-year romance, fans are eager to see how fate brings them back together amid all of the crossover chaos. Between the blazing infernos and flatlining patients, there couldn’t be a more complicated reunion between the Intelligence Unit legends, but fans can’t wait to see how it all unfolds.

Chihards won’t want to miss the return of One Chicago on Wednesdays after getting a look at the sneak peek photos from the crossover, which show Upton and Halstead together after their shocking divorce.
Upton and Halstead are back for the One Chicago crossover event — and Upton has a new job
In a first look at the 2026 One Chicago crossover, Upton and Halstead are fully back in action, albeit looking a bit rough for wear. In one snapshot, we see Upton leaning against an ambulance as Chicago Med icon Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos) patches up her wounds. A concerned Halstead watches from the sidelines, still clearly caring about Upton’s well-being despite their years apart.
In another behind-the-scenes photo, we see Upton looking downright badass in her gig and wearing a FBI jacket, surrounded by fellow federal agents and joined by Firehouse 51 heroes Lt. Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney). At long last, Chihards have clarity about where Upton settled down after leaving the Windy City, and it’s no surprise that she seemingly joined the FBI, considering her previous tenure with the feds on P.D. Season 7.
Upstead tease details about their One Chicago crossover reunion
So, could the P.D. power couple get back together with their Windy City return? Only time will tell, but One Chicago stars Spiradakos and Soffer couldn’t be more thrilled to be back with the Intelligence Unit, sharing a heartwarming behind-the-scenes selfie to Instagram on February 11 of Upstead sitting in the front seat of a police car.
“Back at it :),” Spiradakos captioned the post, which of course had Chihards excited to see them both back in action.
The official logline for the One Chicago crossover promises, “Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield when a passenger jet suddenly goes silent mid-air, triggering a high-stakes emergency. Their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery — one with consequences that could ripple far beyond the runway and put countless lives in jeopardy.”

The P.D. icons spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the thrills of hopping back aboard the One Chicago machine, both relishing in the opportunity to work with the entire One Chicago franchise for their epic reunion. Soffer has directed a few P.D. episodes since his exit, but now he gets to bump shoulders with his friends over on Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, as well.
“There’s something about Jay and Chicago that’s always going to be in my DNA,” Soffer said. “Coming back felt natural. I was excited to see where he is now, and I’m grateful I got the chance to honor how much that character means to me.”
Spiridakos echoed the enthusiasm, adding, “Coming back to Chicago feels like coming home. I loved getting to see where Hailey has ended up and being reunited with the cast and crew (from all three shows)! It was my absolute highlight. I am thrilled for fans to see our three-hour-long adventure, along with an Upstead reunion.”
Don’t miss Upton and Halstead’s triumphant return by tuning in for the three-hour One Chicago crossover on Wednesday, March 4, beginning at 8/7c on NBC. Unlike typical One Chicago Wednesdays, Chicago Fire will lead the cavalry of One Chicago crossover episodes at 8/7c, followed by Chicago Med at 9/8c, and Chicago P.D. at 10/9c.
