2.5-magnitude earthquake rattles Lexington and Columbia

A 2.5-magnitude earthquake has rattled areas near Lexington and Columbia, South Carolina, on Thursday afternoon.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck around 12:17 p.m. local time, just 2.8 miles north of Lexington, at a shallow depth of 0 kilometers.

The tremor was also felt in nearby communities including Irmo, Seven Oaks, Oak Grove, and Columbia, roughly 12 miles east of the epicenter.

The USGS reported a horizontal location uncertainty of 1.6 kilometers.
