Butragueño: “It’s odd that every season we’re playing against Manchester City”

Real Madrid spokesman and club legend Emilio Butragueño talked to Movistar+ immediately after Los Blancos drew Manchester City in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.

“It’s odd that every season we’re playing against them, I think it’s already five seasons in a row playing against Manchester City. We know each other really well. They have a great team, not just a great team, they have a great roster and that gives Guardiola a lot of options,” said Butragueño.

The first leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu, which means that Los Blancos won’t be able to rely on their classic comebacks in front of their fans.

“That forces us to achieve a good result, which allows us to defend it in Manchester,” he added.

Butragueño is expecting a competitive meeting between these two teams.

“Whenever we play with them they are offensive football matches, of two teams that want to send in the game, usually with quite a few goals. It is one of the best games you can find in world football,” he explained.

The former attacker also shared his thoughts on the team’s recent injuries, which could play a factor against City.

“We have injured players who are very important to us. We are confident that they are in good condition for the tie, because we will need everyone, given the opponent’s quality. We live it with excitement. This competition means a lot to us and we clearly trust in the ability of our players and that they will respond to the demand,” he concluded.
