WWE Elimination Chamber 2026 revealed former AEW talent Danhausen as the mysterious entity inside of a box. The extremely random WWE storyline featured someone inside of the box for weeks. Fans had high hopes for a big name coming to shake things up. WWE gave the reveal of Danhausen making his debut on a major PPV, but the odd segment ended with fans booing.

Authority figures Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis opened the box to unveil Danhausen and a group of female dancers wearing his face paint. Danhausen walked to the ring and received a relatively mixed reaction for most of the segment. However, the mixed reaction turned into loud boos at the end of the segment when fans realized nothing else was happening.

Danhausen spent a couple of years in AEW, but they didn’t use him on television for over a year to let his contract expire. Rumors started circulating that Danhausen may be WWE bound when he was removed from the AEW roster page this weekend. The timing made sense and was confirmed when the wacky comedic character was revealed as a big mystery tonight.

Why Some Fans Booed Danhausen

Many fans had higher expectations for the big reveal of someone coming out of the box creating more of an impact. Chris Jericho was the biggest name rumored since he’s another talent expected to leave AEW for WWE once his contract fully expires. Danhausen is a relatively unknown side character in the wrestling world to make him a confusing debut to the average fan.

AEW used Danhausen in comedic segments with names like Hook or Orange Cassidy for a short while. Danhausen was never involved in any main event angles or storylines to see him more akin to someone like R-Truth in WWE. However, WWE appeared to view him as a big enough deal to hype up his debut as a PPV reveal.

Fans expected more from a storyline making them speculate, especially since Triple H has started to use this form of storytelling more often. Mysterious reveals are usually meant to set up a big moment, but Danhausen felt like a secondary talent that most don’t even know getting the huge spotlight. Some fans resented this and booed in favor of wanting a bigger name.

Why WWE Gave Danhausen A Big Reveal

Danhausen does deserve respect for his ability to sell merchandise as a strong character. Both his AEW tenure and time on the independent circuit featured Danhausen being one of the most successful merchandise sellers.

AEW often saw Danhausen in the top ten, despite having a limited role or not appearing on television at all. Danhausen also offers another comedy character, which is pivotal in WWE for their longer television shows. Comedic characters like R-Truth and Santino Marella have helped the company deliver countless memorable backstage segments.

CM Punk’s friendship with Danhausen is likely another reason for the journeyman getting his WWE chance. The two became tight in AEW, and Punk has vouched for Danhausen being one of the most talented names in the wrestling world. Punk’s hometown Chicago fans booing Danhausen likely took them both by surprise. Danhausen must deliver strong to get over a rather lackluster debut.
