USGS reports 3.0 magnitude earthquake in Lexington County

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – Authorities said an earthquake was felt in part of the Midlands on Thursday.

The United States Geological Survey said a 3.0 magnitude earthquake was detected near Lake Murray in Lexington County just before 12:30 p.m.

WIS has received reports of the quake being felt in parts of Columbia as well, including at the WIS studio.

USGS is also reporting light damage out near Red Bank/Pelion. WIS is reaching out for more information on the impacts across the Midlands.

USGS initially reported the earthquake as a magnitude 3.4, but later downgraded the quake in subsequent updates.
