Iran latest: Tehran says it won’t negotiate with US on third day of bombing as conflict spreads

Trump says US will attack Iran until ‘all objectives achieved’. What are they?

Donald Trump has been saying the US attacks on Iran will continue until “all our objectives” are achieved.

So what are they?

Here’s what he said in his video message on Saturday:

Preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon

Trump has always hated this idea. He claimed to have “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program in strikes last June, but said this week that Tehran had attempted to rebuild the program.

Containing Iran’s missile programme

He claims Iran had attempted to “continue developing long-range missiles that can now threaten our very good friends and allies in Europe, our troops stationed overseas, and could soon reach the American homeland.”

To eliminate threat to Americans and allies from Iran and proxies

The president says he wants “to defend the American people by eliminating imminent
threats from the Iranian regime” and its proxy groups, citing “countless” actions against US forces in the Middle East in recent years, and international
shipping lanes.

Punishment for treatment and killing of protesters

He accused the regime of killing “tens of thousands of its
own citizens on the street as they protested” – figures which have not been substantiated.

Regime change

Trump has been urging Iranians to “take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations.”
