Wyatt Russell largely grew up on movie sets, watching his father, Kurt Russell, take center stage. Now a critically acclaimed actor himself, he has begun to share that experience with his two children.
Kurt and his son are starring alongside each other in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season Two. The pair appeared on the February 27 episode of the TODAY Show to discuss the project.
When asked how growing up on Hollywood studio lots shaped his approach to parenting, Wyatt offered a rare insight into his life as a father. “It’s valuable as I grew up on sets and you get to see all the things, and I’ve said it before, it was more of a circus atmosphere back in the 90s, where there weren’t any rules or lawsuits going to happen,” he shared.

“But I do try to bring that a little bit to what I’m doing with my kids, where it’s like there’s only a couple of rules, like stay quiet when everything is rolling, and the dessert trailer is as much as you want.”
Wyatt and Meredith Hagner have been married since 2019, and share two kids together, sons Buddy and Boone. The couple largely keeps their kids out of the spotlight and don’t share photos of them where their faces aren’t obscured.
The father of two is Kurt and Goldie Hawn’s only child together, but he is part of a blended family that includes brother Boston, whom Kurt welcomed with ex-wife Season Hubley, and Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson from Goldie’s previous relationship with Bill Hudson.

Last year, Meredith gave insight into what Goldie and Kurt, who have been together for over 40 years, are like as grandparents. Speaking with Us Weekly, she said: “Oh they’re the best,” adding: “They’re just, like, the greatest people, greatest grandparents.”
“They live down the road from us, so my son is like — that’s their second home,” she went on, revealing: “They’ll have a cookie jar that’s always full, and my son knows where it is, and they have a toy box that is always brimming with toys.”
Wyatt’s career
Wyatt started playing ice hockey as a teenager, a goaltender, beginning a tenure with teams in Canada before playing collegiate hockey with the University of Alabama. In 2009, he moved to Europe to play professionally with teams in Germany and the Netherlands, but his career was cut short in 2010 due to injuries. Wyatt eventually began following his parents’ footsteps into acting.

“Wyatt, what a lot of folks may not know about you is before you were a critically acclaimed actor you were a professional hockey player you were a golley. When you were watching team USA win gold, what was that like for you as a former professional hockey player?” asked Craig Melvin during the TODAY Show interview.
“Puke city. I was so nervous. The game he played was unbelievably fantastic and I was so happy for those guys. It was amazing to see those guys and the hard work,” replied Wyatt.
