Spied! The Next-Gen 2027 Chevy Silverado Will Offer This Old-School Truck Body Style

  • The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will introduce a new generation of the half-ton truck, and new spy photos show it’ll still offer an old-school configuration.
  • Our spy photographer caught what appears to be an entry-level Work Truck (WT) trim with a regular cab and likely a 6.6-foot cargo bed.
  • The next-gen Silverado is expected to be revealed sometime later this year, and it should look a lot like GM’s patent images that leaked last year.

Less than a week after our spy photographer captured our best look yet at the next generation of GM’s full-size truck, we’ve received new photos showing the 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 will still be available with an old-school body style. Whereas the majority of modern pickups are configured with four doors, the regular (a.k.a. two-door) cab continues to be popular among tradespeople and fleets—and Chevy looks to appease both parties with its forthcoming Work Truck (WT).

As you can clearly see from these photos, the camouflaged Silverado test mule features a regular cab. This configuration is currently available as part of the 2026 Silverado lineup, but it wasn’t a given that Chevy would keep it alive for the next generation. Based on the existing regular-cab Silverado 1500, which is only offered on the entry-level WT model, its standard box measures 79.44 inches long—roughly six feet six inches. An even longer eight-foot, two-inch bed is also available and should continue to be.

These new spy photos also suggest that Chevy’s humble Work Truck will inherit the fancier LED daytime running lights that are currently reserved for higher-spec trim levels. We’ve seen a similar setup on other Silverado prototypes, and it looks like the WT will get upgraded headlights too. Unlike the other trucks we’ve spied, the base model’s grille looks different, sporting an egg-crate-like mesh. It also looks like the new WT is ditching the blocky “CHEVROLET” lettering that spans the current version’s grille. Now, the front end hosts a familiar crossbar, and we’d bet that a Chevy bow-tie logo is behind the bulky camo on its nose.

Along with signaling the return of the regular cab, the camo’d Work Truck features its signature steel wheels. As for its available powertrains, that remains to be seen, but the 2026 model offers the choice of a 310-hp turbo four or a 355-hp 5.3-liter V-8. Both pair with rear- or all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Will the next generation bring new or improved options? We should find out sometime later this year.

After earning a journalism degree at Central Michigan University and working at a daily newspaper, the years of basically burning money on failed project cars and lemon-flavored jalopies finally paid off when Car and Driver hired him.
