Report: Rams working on deal to acquire Chiefs all-pro CB Trent McDuffie

The Los Angeles Rams appear to be adding a game-changer to their secondary.
Trent McDuffie is reportedly on his way to L.A., as the Rams are working on a trade to acquire the Kansas City Chiefs’ all-pro cornerback, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
In return for McDuffie, the Rams are reportedly sending back a package of four picks, including the 29th overall selection in the 2026 NFL draft in April, along with a fifth- and sixth-rounder and a third in 2027.
McDuffie, 25, is expected to sign a long-term deal with the Rams.
The 21st overall pick in 2022 is coming off his fourth NFL season, in which he posted one interception, seven pass deflections, one forced fumble and one sack through 13 games. The University of Washington product has three interceptions, 34 pass deflections, eight forced fumbles and 5.5 sacks through 56 career regular-season games.
McDuffie has been a mainstay of Kansas City’s secondary throughout his time in the pros, helping lead the franchise to two Super Bowl titles in that span. He led all players in the 2023 post-season with seven pass deflections en route to the Chiefs’ second consecutive championship.
In 2025, McDuffie helped backstop a defence that ranked 10th in yards allowed per game and was sixth in total points allowed. The Chiefs were also in the top half of the league in passing yards allowed per game.
Despite trading away their own first-rounder in 2026, the Rams will still be picking in the opening round. Los Angeles owns Atlanta’s first-round selection — 13th overall — after the Rams gave the Falcons their 2025 first (and a third), which was used to draft James Pearce Jr.
Wheeling and dealing first-round picks has been a trademark of Rams general manager Les Snead, as the franchise has dealt its own top selection every year since 2017. L.A. previously acquired all-pro CB Marcus Peters from the Chiefs in 2018 in a similar deal.
This is also the second time in three seasons that Kansas City has opted to move a top secondary player rather than re-sign him to a lucrative new deal. The Chiefs traded L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans in 2024.
