Stefon Diggs Reportedly Released by Patriots, WR Thanks NE For ‘Hell of a Year’ After Super Bowl Run

After making a run to Super Bowl LX, the New England Patriots and veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs are parting ways.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Patriots informed Diggs that he will be released at the start of the new league year next week, just a year after he signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the team.
Diggs was set to count for a $26.5 million cap hit in 2026, so getting his contract off the books adds to New England’s $35.3 million in cap space. Michael Ginnitti of Spotrac explained that the team will incur a $9.7 million dead cap charge, with the remaining difference being freed up for this offseason.
In his first year with the Patriots, Diggs started all 17 games and produced 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. It was a strong bounce-back year for the 32-year-old after he was limited to eight games during the 2024 season with the Houston Texans due to a torn ACL.
Unfortunately, Diggs disappeared during New England’s postseason run, totaling just 14 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown across four games. In the Patriots’ 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, he recorded just three receptions for 37 yards.
Despite Diggs’ lackluster performance in the playoffs, he recently received a vote of confidence from head coach Mike Vrabel, who said he “was just a really good presence each and every week.”
However, the Patriots ultimately decided it would be best to release Diggs, and he will likely be one of the most coveted receivers on the free-agent market. At this stage in his career, he will undoubtedly be looking to land with a team that can help him earn his first championship ring.
