Anne Hathaway Was ‘Fully in Character’ on ‘The Odyssey Set,’ Even When the Camera ‘Wouldn’t See Her for Three Days’: ‘You Never Stop Working’

The upcoming film adaptation of “The Odyssey” looks to be epic in scope, and to achieve that vision, director Christopher Nolan apparently maintained a high level of intensity on set.

Logan Marshall-Green, who has starred in films such as “Prometheus” and “Upgrade” and is one of the leads of the new “Yellowstone” spinoff series “Marshals,” has an as-yet-undisclosed role in “The Odyssey.” He spoke with Variety about the power of Nolan as a director, and how everyone on set follows his work ethic, from frequent A-list collaborators like Anne Hathaway to all of the craftspeople.

“He is Christopher Nolan, and the second you are on set, you are working,” Marshall-Green said. “And you are never turning your back to the ocean, or it will smack you. I could not have had a better experience shooting ‘The Odyssey.’ To be surrounded by that caliber of artist, in every department, but it all starts with Chris, and he never stops working. So you never stop working, and I took my cues from actors who had worked with him, like Anne. Anne would be fully performing in character, and the camera wouldn’t even see her for three days in the one scene we’d be shooting. That all begins and ends with Chris, and what he demands of himself, so he expects it of others. I loved his process. I would do it in a heartbeat again.”

“The Odyssey” is set to be released in theaters on July 17. The starry cast also includes Matt Damon, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and many more.
