Bruins Hit With Huge Robert Thomas Asking Price

The Boston Bruins checked in on one of the biggest names available ahead of the NHL trade deadline, but the price tag from the St. Louis Blues is not cheap by any means.According to insider Jimmy Murphy of RG.org, Boston was hit with an enormous asking price for star center Robert Thomas, making a potential blockbuster deal very complicated with their current situation.

Blues demand massive package for Robert Thomas

Murphy reported that the Blues’ asking price from the Bruins included top prospect “James Hagens, young NHL center Fraser Minten, and Boston’s 2026 first-round pick.”

That is a staggering return for a single player, even one as talented as Thomas.

The 26-year-old playmaking center has been one of St. Louis’ most consistent offensive drivers in recent seasons, recording multiple 80-point campaigns and serving as the engine of the Blues’ top line.

Thomas is also signed long term, carrying an $8.125 million cap hit through the 2030-31 season, which only increases his value on the trade market.

But surrendering a trio of premium assets including Hagens, the Bruins’ seventh overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, would significantly impact Boston’s long-term pipeline.

Hagens has been tearing up the NCAA with Boston College, while Minten has emerged as a promising young center after breaking out earlier this season.

Hagens has 20 goals and 20 assists in 30 games this season. Minten, 21, has 14 goals and 29 total points, along with a strong +17 plus/minus rating across 60 games this year.

Bruins must decide if Robert Thomas is worth the price

Boston has been playing strong hockey under head coach Marco Sturm and could certainly benefit from adding a top-line distributor like Thomas. His ability to drive offense and elevate linemates would immediately boost Boston’s attack and power play.

However, the cost appears steep enough that Boston will hesitate before pushing negotiations any further.
