Passport and travel document fees increase soon

Ottawa, March 3, 2026—Canadians rely on secure, timely passport services when they need to travel. To continue delivering reliable service and keep pace with rising costs, most passport and travel document fees will increase on March 31, 2026. This will be the first update to passport fees since 2013.

The adjustment reflects inflation and the growing cost of producing secure travel documents and supporting Canadians throughout the application process.

For applications made within Canada, the fees will be as follows:

  • 10-year regular adult passport – from $160 to $163.50 (up $3.50)
  • 5-year regular adult passport – from $120 to $122.50 (up $2.50)
  • 5-year regular child passport – from $57 to $58.50 (up $1.50)

Visit the Passport and travel document fee changes page to see the full list of updated fee amounts. Applications received on or after March 31, 2026, are subject to the new fees.

Under the Service Fees Act, certain government fees are updated annually based on inflation. Passport and travel document fees will now be adjusted each year in line with this requirement to help maintain sustainable and consistent service over time.

Additionally, in order to provide a simpler and more predictable experience for Canadians, the Government of Canada is strengthening accountability and efficiency for passport services. Starting April 1, 2026, complete passport applications will be processed within 30 business days or they will be free. Refunds will be issued automatically if processing exceeds 30 business days, meaning no action is required by applicants. For more details on refunds and how they are issued, see the Refunds for applications processed outside service standards page.

Together, these initiatives support reliable passport services and strengthen accountability for Canadians.
