MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) –

The potential for damaging winds and a low-end risk for a tornado spin-up exists Saturday morning into the early hours of the afternoon.

A 2/5 slight risk for severe weather exists for the Mid-South along and south of the Mississippi/Tennessee state line where the potential for damaging winds is greatest.

The entire Mid-South is under a 1/5 Marginal Risk Saturday morning into the afternoon, including a low-end risk at a brief tornado spin-up.

A low passing to the north of the Mid-South Saturday brought record highs to parts of the Mid-South Friday afternoon, helping to fuel Saturday morning’s storms.

The line of storms arrives Saturday morning around sunrise bringing widespread heavy rain and gusty wind. Widespread heavy rain remains in place midday before more coverage becomes more scattered Saturday evening.

Sunday brings much drier but also cooler weather to the Mid-South with highs reaching the 60s.

A widespread 1-3 inches of rain is forecast Saturday with localized spots having the chance at slightly more. This will make localized flooding concerns for especially flood-prone spots.

The heaviest of the rain and greatest potential for severe weather exists between the hours of 6am and 3pm Saturday before rain gradually tapers down into the overnight hours. Damaging winds and flooding are the primary threats, but a brief tornado spin-up and large hail cannot be completely ruled out.
