Why ITV’s Lorraine Kelly was replaced by This Morning presenter at the last minute today

This Morning‘s Ben Shephard stepped in for Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show today as part of a last-minute shake-up. At the end of Good Morning Britain, hosts Kate Garraway and Paul Brand handed over to Kelly in the studio to detail what was coming up on the show.

However, instead of the usual host, the two were greeted by Shephard, prompting concern for fans as to why Lorraine Kelly was not present.

“Lorraine’s looking a bit rough this morning, if I’m honest. Ben Shephard, what are you doing?” Garraway joked.

After suffering from a sore throat earlier in the week, Shephard explained that Kelly had completely lost her voice and therefore was not able to present.

“I’m not 100% sure, Kate, as you know. But what I can tell you is that unfortunately, if you’ve been watching this week, Lorraine’s voice has been getting very bad,” he responded.

“It’s been getting worse. It finally collapsed last night. She couldn’t say a thing, much to Steve’s [her husband] delight – just a few squeaks here and there. I’ve jumped into the hot seat just for today.”

Later in the episode, Shephard joked that viewers should not “adjust their sets”, explaining: “Lorraine, I’m afraid to say, she’s not feeling that well today.

“But hopefully she’ll get well soon. Everyone here is sending their love, Lorraine, wishing you a speedy recovery.”

Tuesday’s episode of the show saw the ITV host admit that her voice sounded “terrible” while chatting with Susanne Reid, who said: “I have a feeling you might need to ask Dr Amir [Khan] for something for that throat because you sound like you’re losing your voice.”

Kelly responded: “It’s terrible. I know, it sounds awful… It’s really strange.”

She later thanked Dr Amir for giving her ginger tea during the broadcast, admitting she was “feeling a lot better”.

Lorraine airs weekday mornings on ITV.
