The ground has eased at Cheltenham ahead of the final day of the festival, which is headlined by the Boodles Gold Cup, following a total of 12mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

A further 10mm of rain arrived overnight to add to the 2mm during racing, and the ground has changed from Thursday’s description of good, good to soft in places.

Speaking at 6.45am, Cheltenham’s clerk of the course Jon Pullin said: “We had 12mm of rain yesterday and overnight, so we’re now good to soft, soft in places on the chase course, and soft, good to soft in places on the hurdles course.”

Strong winds and rain hit the Gloucestershire track on Thursday, but Pullin is anticipating a more settled day with the chance of a small amount of rain.

He added: “We should be mostly dry, but we might just catch the odd shower, but nothing significant volume-wise.”

The final day of the Cheltenham Festival begins at 1.20pm with the JCB Triumph Hurdle, while the Gold Cup is at 4pm. A field of 11 head to post in the feature, with Gaelic Warrior and The Jukebox Man battling it out for favouritism at this stage.
