Before the 2026 Oscars, Chalemet made a controversial comment about ballet and opera. Per People, he said: “I don’t want to be working in ballet, or opera, or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though like no one cares about this anymore.’ All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there.”
Soon after, everyone has been calling him out, including Copeland, whom he asked to promote his film Maty Supreme.
Copeland commented on his remarks via CBS News, saying, “There’s a reason that the opera and ballet have been around over 400 years. And I think that when you have access, you have the opportunity to be a part of something, it can change your life.”

She added, “First, I have to say that it’s very interesting that he invited me to be a part of promoting ‘Marty Supreme’ with respect to my art form.”
And now, she just danced for one of the other films battling for Best Picture!
