The driver accidentally accelerated while turning and struck a woman who was advertising on the curb, police say
SAN ANTONIO – A woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle while advertising with a sign on the Northwest Side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
The crash happened just after 1 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Bandera Road.
On Sunday, an SAPD preliminary report identified the woman as Darlene Ibarra, 35.
According to SAPD, an Uber driver was traveling southbound on East Quill Drive when they attempted to make a turn westbound onto Bandera.
The driver then lost control of their vehicle and went over the sidewalk, police said. SAPD at the scene said the driver accidentally accelerated while turning.
Ibarra was standing on the corner of Bandera Road and was struck by the vehicle, SAPD said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police at the scene told KSAT that Ibarra was advertising on the curb with a sign.
The rideshare driver is cooperating with authorities and is not expected to face any charges, police said at the scene.
SAPD’s investigation is ongoing.
