Shake Shack coming to Calgary’s Chinook Centre

A popular American burger chain will open it’s newest location at a Calgary shopping mall.
Shake Shack announcing Monday it will open on the upper level across from the dining hall in CF Chinook Centre on Macleod Trail SW.
There’s no official opening date, but the company says it will be sometime this spring.
This will be the fast food restaurant’s first Canadian location outside of Ontario, which currents has seven spots.
“Since launching in Canada in 2024, Alberta has always been our radar and we are excited for our launch.” said Billy Richmond, business director at Shake Shack Canada in a press release. “Shake Shack is more than a burger spot—it’s a neighbourhood hub to celebrate delicious food and community. We can’t wait to serve up our signature menu items along with some Calgary exclusives.”
Shake Shack Chinook will be anchored with an original mural by Calgary-based artist Irene Neyman.
The artist is known for her use of bright colours balanced with simple shapes, textures, and thoughtful detail. The brand says her work celebrates the city’s most recognizable landmarks, “bringing the space to life in a way that feels distinctly Calgary.”
“Shake Shack has such a strong sense of personality, so it was exciting to translate that through a local lens,” Neyman said. “The mural is meant to feel playful, welcoming, and connected to Calgary – a space people want to spend time in.”
Shake Shack started as a hot dog cart in NYC’s Madison Square Park in 2001 ahead of it’s first storefront opening in 2004.
Calgary has welcomed popular American restaurants to town in recent years, in some cases drawing huge crowds.
When Chick-fil-A opened, some Calgarians waited more than two hours to get a taste.
Last June, a man who lives in Cochrane made the trip to Calgary and camped out in line to be the first customer at the new Krispy Kreme.
