Monday forecast: Staying cold despite sunny skies

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – After another frigid night to begin Tuesday. Temperatures will be much warmer the rest of the week. Little to no chance of any meaningful precipitation for the week.

Taking Action:

  1. Bundle up today and tonight of what could be the last time it gets this cold for the season.
  2. Storm spotter class tonight at 7pm will be in Junction City at the Geary County 4-H Senior Citizen Center on 1025 South Spring Valley Road. Check the list of classes here.
  3. Winds remain a concern today and tomorrow with lighter winds the rest of the week. Even with lighter winds we’ll have to monitor the humidity levels and how high the fire danger concern will be so stay tuned.

IF there is going to be any precipitation there may be some sprinkles or even flurries tomorrow afternoon but there is going to be dry air that even if it shows up on radar, it may not reach the surface so nothing to be concerned about.

Tonight: Increasing Clouds. Lows in the mid teens. Winds NW/E around 5 mph.

Tomorrow: Cloudy. Highs in the upper 40s-low 50s. Winds SE/S 5-15 gusts around 25 mph.

Temperatures don’t cool that much for Tuesday night with lows staying above freezing and highs back in the 70s by Wednesday. The warm weather will be sticking around at least through Saturday.

Models differ on a cold front and how cool it will get Sunday into Monday so be aware we have to adjust the temperatures throughout the week as models become more of an agreement and temperatures won’t be as warm Sunday/Monday as what the 8 day indicates. Other than some light precipitation at times early next week from one model the other two long range models keep the area dry.
