Robbie Fowler has told Dominik Szoboszlai he was wrong with his post-Tottenham Hotspur assessment. The Kop icon also believes that more questions will be asked about Arne Slot if he fails to win a trophy this season.
Liverpool’s inconsistent form continued on Sunday when Richarlison struck late on to rescue Spurs a precious point at Anfield. Szoboszlai had earlier given his side the lead, and speaking post-match, he claimed that his side had controlled the game.
But Fowler disagreed with the take saying: “I listened to Dominik Szoboszlai about Liverpool controlling the game.
“I must have seen a different game because I don’t think Liverpool controlled it whatsoever. Forwards win games.

“Defenders can stop you winning games, but if you have control of the midfield, you’re going to win games and Liverpool never had control.
“A draw was the right result. Liverpool didn’t do enough, and, if anything, Tottenham were the better team in the second half.
“It’s like teams when you go into cups and they play a weakened team. You have got to get the wins and confidence going. If you get a win, that breeds confidence to take into the next game.
“You’ve always got to play your strongest team. I get that you’ve got to look after the players because you’ve got big games but the big game is the next one.

“I don’t know whether Ekitike is complaining of tiredness or a bit vulnerable in terms of he can’t play that many games per week, but for me, you’ve got to play him.
“They had a good chance to put a bit of a stamp on their own season, get into that top four and stay there. But, again, they have faltered.
“They had a chance to show people a little bit of what they’re made of, and they just haven’t done it again.”
Even though Slot led the Reds to Premier League glory last season, this campaign has brought plenty of problems for the Dutchman. Not only are his side already out of the title race, but they are also in a battle to secure Champions League football next season.

As a result, Slot has come under mounting pressure at various points across the current campaign, and as the Reds prepare to return to action against Galatasaray, Fowler believes a failure to win a trophy this season will place further scrutiny on the Liverpool head coach.
“Liverpool need to get into the Champions League, not from a club point of view but from a monetary point of view,” he said. “Liverpool should be in the higher echelons of the league and the latter stages of every competition they go into.
“The problem with them winning the league last year is that everyone’s expectations are going to rise, and if you’re not challenging, expectations are going to drop. It’s a must if they get into the Champions League.
“But I think they have genuinely got to win a competition. We’ll be stood here towards the end of the season, and if they haven’t got any of them, questions will be asked about the manager again.”
