Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike was distraught as he left the field with an injury early in Saturday’s Premier League game at Brighton.
Ekitike collided with James Milner in the center of the pitch just minutes into the game at the Amex Stadium.
The French forward tried to run it off after the collision but was unable to continue, burying his head in his shirt as he limped off the field.
Curtis Jones came on to replace the 23-year-old in the ninth minute.
Ekitike has been a key figure for Liverpool in his first season with the club, scoring 16 goals across all competitions following a move from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.
The striker broke through with the France national team last fall, earning his first six caps for Les Bleus and scoring his first international goal against Ukraine in November.
Ekitike was named to France’s latest squad for friendlies in the U.S. against Brazil and Colombia.
