Netflix Sets Documentary Partnership With Warner Music Group

EXCLUSIVE: Warner Music Group and Netflix have set an exclusive multi-year first-look deal that will see the streamer make documentary series and films exploring the lives, music, and legacies of WMG’s artists and songwriters, past and present.
Unigram, run by Amanda Ghost and Gregor Cameron, will serve as the production arm for WMG’s longform programming, working with the company to develop each project in collaboration with the artist or their estates.

WMG reps legends like David Bowie, Cher, Phil Collins, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Madonna and Joni Mitchell, alongside contemporary superstars such as Charli xcx, Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, and more. Operating in more than 70 countries, the company encompasses labels such as 10K Projects, 300 Entertainment, Atlantic, Big Beat, EastWest, Elektra, Erato, First Night, Fueled By Ramen, Nonesuch, Parlophone, Reprise, Rhino, Roadrunner, Sire, Spinnin’, Warner Records, Warner Classics, and Warner Records Nashville. WMG’s music publishing arm, Warner Chappell Music, has a catalog of over one million copyrights spanning every musical genre, from the standards of the Great American Songbook to the biggest hits of the 21st century.
Unigram was founded by Ghost in 2015, in partnership with Len Blavatnik’s Access Industries, which owns and controls Warner Music Group. The production company’s credits include Moulin Rouge! The Musical, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, and The Deb, to name just a few.
Highly active in the music doc space, in collaboration with various labels, Netflix has the anticipated BTS: The Return coming up for release on March 27. Most recently releasing The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel, a doc on the band’s formative years in Los Angeles, the streamer is coming off the SXSW premieres of docs Noah Kahan: Out of Body and Lainey Wilson: Keepin’ Country Cool, which will respectively launch on the platform on April 13th and 22nd.
