Graphic police body cam footage shown in Maui doctor’s attempted murder trial

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Body cam footage was played for the jury Wednesday in Maui doctor Gerhardt Konig’s attempted murder trial.
Graphic video from an officer’s body worn camera appeared to show his wife, Arielle Konig, with blood covering her face as two hikers helped her off a trail near the Pali Lookout last March.
Her estranged husband is accused of repeatedly striking her in the head with a rock after allegedly trying to push her off a hiking trial and stab her with a syringe.
During Wednesday’s testimony, both sides questioned officers from the Honolulu Police Department about the evidence collected at the scene, including the rock that was allegedly used as a weapon, and the body cam footage.
Officers also described the physical altercation with the defendant that ensued when they arrived on scene.
HPD officers said they wrestled, and ended up on the ground, where police say they struck the suspect several times with fists to get Konig to comply.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial is scheduled to resume on Friday.
