Fantasy Baseball SP Roundup 3/25: Dud Webb

Welcome to the SP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every starting pitcher’s performance from every Wednesday game. I apologize for the jokes written in my delirium in advance. Have questions? Ask me during my office hours on Twitch.tv weekday mornings from 10 am-12 pm ET.

Logan Webb (SFG) vs NYY (L) – 5.0 IP, 6 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 7 Ks – 9 Whiffs, 33% CSW, 86 pitches.

One in twelve of you drafted Logan Webb and were stoked to watch one of your guys (likely your ace!) do his thing on the first night of baseball. Yeah, that didn’t happen. Webb spun a poor outing for his trusted allies via 5.0 IP, 6 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 7 Ks – 9 Whiffs, 33% CSW, 86 pitches, carrying the loss as the Yankees scored seven total runs against him, all without a HR. Look at that! A Golden GoalOkay, y’all, two pitchers went today. HE BEAT FRIED! You may be the only one claiming that.

Anyway, you already know what I’m going to say. Webb didn’t pitch nearly as badly as the line suggests (he was Singled Out in the second without a HR and actually located his sinker and changeup pretty well), and at least you got seven strikeouts at the end of the day. I was shocked to see Webb refuse to use his sweeper against RHB after hanging one to Caballero in the top of the second for a single, and I imagine that will change in future outings, while his cutter was featured just four times to LHB – another low mark that I think will increase across the season.

It was a night of Koufax wanting to see some action in the second frame and thems the breaks. But his sinker was down 1.5 ticks! Eh, it’s the first start of the year. You simply cannot take any action from this start.

Let’s see how every other SP did Wednesday:

Max Fried (NYY) @ SFG (W) – 6.1 IP, 0 ER, 2 Hits, 1 BBs, 4 Ks – 6 Whiffs, 27% CSW, 86 pitches.

Aces gonna ace. Concerning Max effort, the velocity was a tick down overall, but that’s normal for Fried and in actuality, you should be thrilled he was a stud from the get-go. After all, Fried is a notorious frozen car that requires you to sit for five minutes, waiting for the engine to heat up. That usually takes about two to three starts, and here we are, getting glorious production without hesitation. It helps pitching in Oracle Park, especially when the cutter isn’t jamming RHB inside as it should, but otherwise? This is dope. Love the increased sinker usage to LHB and high strike rate on his changeup to RHB. He’s dope and makes us feel dope.

Game of the Day

Joe Ryan vs. Trevor Rogers – I’m super confident in both these arms and I want to see them both sit 93/94 mph with high heaters and cruise. OPENING DAY Y’ALL.

But Nick?! Where are the streaming picks? – I’ve moved them to the daily SP Matchups & Streamer Rankings article.
