Police Warn About Upcoming Beach Takeover Party Near Berkeley

ALBANY, CA — Authorities are warning parents about an unpermitted “beach takeover” party being planned for Saturday near Berkeley.
The party is expected to take place at the Albany Bulb Beach, just west of Berkeley, from 6 p.m. to midnight, according to the East Bay Regional District Police Department.
A similar event was held ahead of St. Patrick’s Day in Alameda’s Crown Memorial Beach. There were fights at the event, a person using a Taser in a crowd and at least one person was hospitalized during the event.
That event was being advertised to “young people” on social media, prompting police to issue an alert to community members about the dangers of these unpermitted parties.
“Officers will be present in significant numbers throughout the evening,” police said about the upcoming party on Saturday. “All applicable laws and regulations will be strictly enforced, and there will be zero tolerance for violations. We encourage everyone to make safe and responsible decisions.”
