Coronation Street has been pulled off air tonight

Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans have days to wait until their next soap fix.

In a huge ITV scheduling shake up tonight (Friday, March 27), both serial dramas have had episodes pulled from their usual slots.

Corrie and Emmerdale usually air 30-minute episodes weeknights between 8pm and 9pm as part of ITV’s soap power hour.

However, fans have had Friday’s instalment stripped away due to the channel airing coverage of England’s clash against Uruguay taking place at Wembley Stadium.

England hosting Uruguay at Wembley Stadium on Friday in an internal friendly match is part of the nation’s preparations for World Cup 2026.

Uruguay has proven a tough opponent over the years – with the Three Lions winning just one of their last six games against the visitors, including a costly defeat in the group stages of World Cup 2014.

ITV’s coverage will begin at 7pm, ready for a 7.45pm kick-off time meaning Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air, leaving fans fuming.

It’s not the first time the soap schedule has been interrupted by sport this month. On March 6, fans were not impressed to hear yet again the soaps had been cancelled by ITV in favour of sports coverage, leading to a plea to bosses.

Taking to social media, one fan posted: “What again !! This is happening way too often.” Another agreed: “Why can’t rugby go on ITV3?” as third said: “Exactly! Or they could at least still put the Corrie episode on ITVX.”

To make up for the loss, ITV has scheduled an additional episode of both soaps to air on Sunday (March 29) instead, so fans will still get five instalment of their favourite show this week, just not at the usual time.

Corrie fans are waiting to find out what’s next for creepy stalker Mal Roper (Tim Treloar). Earlier this week, the Weatherfield villain had a “sudden flashback”, seemingly remembering who it was that attacked him but the issue is that he hasn’t reported the right man.

Meanwhile, over on Emmerdale, Kim Tate (Claire King) was forced to defend her decision to bestow manor house Home Farm to Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick) upon her death.

While the rest of her multi-million pound empire will be distributed between her grandchildren including Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), who wasn’t pleased to learn that his home would be taken from beneath him.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street return to ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday, March 29 at 7pm and 7.30pm retrospectively
