‘Hidden gem’ restaurant beloved by Rick Stein goes into liquidation

The 79-year-old cook was born in Churchill, Chipping Norton and spent his early years growing up on a farm in Oxfordshire.
Since leaving the county, his business empire has ballooned, with four having opened in Cornwall alone.
There’s also a restaurant in ‘millionaire’s row’ at Sandbanks in Dorset, and there are other restaurants across the south.

During his various travels around the world, Mr Stein has tried out several food spots, and one particular favourite of his was Fang Dumpling House in Sydney, Australia.
Described by the Daily Mail as “Cremorne’s best-kept secret” and a “hidden gem”, with the Cotswolds chef declaring it his “favourite hometown restaurant” in 2023.
Yet now the national newspaper reports that the business is in liquidation after it was spotted on an ASIC liquidation list.
“Foodies from all around the city travelled to Fang for a delicious, hearty meal, with many dubbing it ‘dumpling heaven’,” said the Daily Mail.

“Regulars have already begun to mourn the loss of their favourite meals and a pillar of the community that once held fond memories.
“Online reviews paint a picture of a restaurant that, at its peak, delivered exactly what people crave from a neighbourhood dumpling house.”
The news comes after another favourite Australian spot of Mr Stein’s, The Oaks Hotel pub, was sold in a $140m (Australian dollars) blockbuster deal.
