Old fire hoses are a blast with zoo’s bears

Rolls of previously used fire hose have been donated to the animals of a zoo to help keep them occupied.

The decommissioned equipment was given to Whipsnade Zoo by the Dunstable crew at Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The service said they would be used by the keepers to “provide stimulation to various animals”.

The hoses had proved to be a paw-some addition to the European brown bear closure, it added.
