Mandatory evacuation issued for Hernando County neighborhood due to brush fire: HCFR

The Withlacoochee Forestry Center has issued a mandatory evacuation of all businesses on the east side of Shoal Line Boulevard due to the Preserve Brush fire.

What we know:

As of 9:30PM, the fire is 20% contained, and is currently estimated at 120-125 acres in total. The fire has not spread to any structures at this time, and there are no injuries at this time.

Hernando County Fire Rescue and Pasco County Fire Rescue crews are preventatively wetting down buildings in the area due to embers being blown around from the fire.

A total of 50-60 people were evacuated due to the fire, primarily from businesses on the east side of Shoal Line Blvd. 

Shoal Line Blvd. is still closed off due to the large number of emergency vehicles on the road.

Officials are urging anyone in the area to use caution. Florida Forest Service – Withlacoochee Forestry Center has numerous resources deployed working to control the fire.

Residents in the area WEST of Shoal Line Blvd need to pay attention and be prepared to evacuate if necessary. For now, shelter in place until further notified. HCFR and Forestry PIO are on scene providing updates.
