Portland police ID victim of Plaid Pantry homicide, release video and photos of suspect

Portland police have identified the person killed in a Friday shooting at a Northeast Portland Plaid Pantry.

Ernesto Castellanos, 57, was shot by an unknown man in his 20s or 30s, police said. Castellanos was an employee of the Plaid Pantry in the Cully neighborhood. Police previously said they found the man just before midnight at the 6060 Northeast Columbia Boulevard location.

Police said the suspect should be considered dangerous, may still be armed and should not be approached. They described him as a white man in his 20s to 30s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches and 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black knit beanie, black sweatshirt with the words “here to crash the party” on front, blue jeans and black shoes.

Plaid Pantry is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the man, police said.

“We’re just pretty stunned,” Plaid Pantry CEO Jonathan Polonsky told The Oregonian/OregonLive. “Everyone in this situation is heartbroken and trying to get through.”

Castellanos’ death is the fifth homicide in Portland so far this year, including one fatal shooting by police. As of March 28 last year, 11 people had died in homicides, as killings overall fell in the city.

Police asked anyone with information about the suspect to call 911 immediately, contact [email protected] or call (503) 823-0479 and reference case number 26-91195.
