Haze hits Holy Week in southern Gran Canaria: yellow alert and reduced visibility

The arrival of intense haze in the Canary Islands is causing a widespread deterioration in air quality across the archipelago, from the coast to the mountains. In the case of Gran Canaria, the impact will be greater in the eastern and southern areas, where a higher concentration of particulate matter is expected during the middle of the day.
During this Holy Week, southern municipalities such as San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mogán, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Agüimes, and Ingenio will be particularly affected, with reduced visibility, hazy skies, and a dusty atmosphere. The highest concentrations are expected between 12:00 and 15:00, coinciding with the period of greatest atmospheric stability.
Authorities recommend taking extra precautions, especially for people with respiratory problems or sensitivity to particulate matter, and avoiding strenuous outdoor physical activity. This episode of haze, triggered by a yellow alert, may affect the normal course of events and travel planned for these holidays in southern Gran Canaria.
