Report: Top Mariners prospect Colt Emerson signs record $95-million deal

Colt Emerson is getting a major payday before he’s even played a single MLB game.

The Seattle Mariners top prospect agreed to an eight-year, $95-million contract with the club, FanSided‘s Robert Murray reported on Tuesday.

The deal comes with a ninth-year club option and includes escalators that can bring the total value of the contract to over $130 million.

The 20-year-old shortstop hit .285/.383/.458 with 16 home runs and 78 RBI in 130 games played and 600 plate appearances across three different minor-league levels last season.

During spring training this year, he batted .340/.488/.828 with two homers and eight RBI through 47 plate appearances.
