Wrexham striker one game away from qualifying for summer’s World Cup Finals

Wrexham striker Cadamarteri is one game away from qualifying for this summer’s World Cup Finals, while he is also a part of Phil Parkinson’s squad, seeking to secure a spot in the end-of-season Championship play-offs.

With seven games left to play, Wrexham are level on points with sixth-placed Southampton in the quest to achieve a spot in the top-six.

Cadamarteri has been introduced off the bench on a number of occasions since his move from Sheffield Wednesday before the closing of the January transfer window.

He is also close to helping Jamaica reach the World Cup Finals and it was Cadamarteri’s goal that made sure of a 1-0 play-off win over New Caledonia, setting up a winner-takes-all clash with DR Congo this evening.

Speaking to press after the win over New Caledonia, Cadamarteri said: “That’s why we’re professionals.

“Like, the characters that we’ve got in the dressing room at Wrexham, the characters that we’ve got in the dressing room at Jamaica, they’re what help us to kind of get where we are.

“Obviously, we’re good with our feet. We’re good footballers.

“But, at the same time, you’ve got to have the mentality as well to really step over the white line.”

Cadamarteri (pictured below) will be back with the Reds’ squad for the big trip to West Brom on Good Friday, but he will be hoping to have booked his berth as this summer’s World Cup Finals before then.

“Obviously that’s the dream,” he stressed.

“We need to go out there and we need to go and perform, and that’ll put us in good stead to go and get the win, and into the World Cup.”

In qualifying, Curaçao pipped Jamaica to automatic progress straight through to the finals and that is something Cadamarteri will be using as motivation in tonight’s play-off.

He said: “We’ve all faced the disappointment of defeat and, obviously, it weren’t a nice feeling going out to Curaçao and not topping the group in that last game.

“So, we can use that as extra motivation to get the job done this time.”

After ending Wales’ dream on Thursday, Bosnia and Herzegovina host Italy for a place in this summer’s finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Kosovo host Turkey, Poland are in Sweden while the Czech Republic tackle Denmark.
