FAA Warns of Flight Delays at San Francisco Airport With New Safety Rule

The US Federal Aviation Administration warned travelers to expect flight delays at San Francisco International Airport resulting from a runway repaving project and a new safety measure banning planes from landing side-by-side.

The construction and prohibition together are predicted to cause delays of at least 30 minutes for as many as 25% of arriving flights, a spokesperson for the airport said Tuesday in an email. The FAA and the airport said they’re looking at ways to safely increase the arrival rate, which is dropping to 36 planes landing per hour from 54.
