Susan Boyle has stunned fans with a new photo, leading some to suggest she’s ageing “backwards”. The Scottish star rose to stardom in 2008 after winning the third series of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

As she took to the stage all those years ago ahead of her first audition, her appearance was met with laughter from the audience and smirks from judges, Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan as she announced her ambition to be as successful as Elaine Page. However, following her stunning performance of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Misérables, the Scot’s career skyrocketed and by 2021 she had sold an impressive 25 million records.

Now, 18 years on from that debut television performance, West Lothian-born Susan is seemingly looking better than ever.

In anticipation of her 65th birthday on 1 April, she took to Instagram to post a picture of herself donning a football shirt, flaunting a blonde transformation.

Striking a pose with her hands on her hips, she wrote: “I’m so proud to support the wonderful charity, Street Soccer Scotland. I’ve absolutely loved getting my hands on this beautiful limited edition Street Soccer Scotland x Timorous Beasties football shirt.”

Susan continued her charitable endorsement: “Every shirt sold helps give people experiencing homelessness hope and the chance to create positive change through football. We’re all on the same team.”

Writing in response, one shocked Instagram user asked: “How does she look younger?”

A second person reminisced: “I remember watching you 17 years ago and my God we’re you absolutely amazing. And here you are today. You look fabulous.”

Then a third quipped: “OMG, are you Benjamin Button? Looking so youthful and really pretty in your cute tee.”

While a fourth fan exclaimed: “Wow! You look fabulous. Keep up the good work, and sing. I have always enjoyed your singing. Absolutely beautiful.”

Susan is hoping to stage a musical comeback this year after a seven-year break. She had intended to tour in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in its cancellation.

In 2023, she revealed during the Britain’s Got Talent series 16 final that she had suffered a stroke, further delaying her return.

“It’s extra special for me, actually, because last April there, I suffered a minor stroke,” she told hosts, Ant and Dec at the time. “I fought like crazy to get back on stage and I have done it.”

And in April 2025, she posted her first Instagram update in two years, informing her fans she had been busy in the recording studio. “Today was wonderful, emotional, and everything in between,” she said.

“I made my return to the recording studio for the first time in six years, something I was told I might never achieve again. But here we are, in my happy place! I want to thank my manager, Geraldine, for being my absolute rock through everything and for helping me get back to where I belong. A million thanks.”
